Equipment Purchase Guide

Purchasing equipment is no small investment, and here at Rollins, we make it our mission to get you in the equipment, that suits your needs and budget best. We have been an equipment supplier in BC since 1946. First, it’s important to consider the application the equipment needs to operate in. Looking for fleet management solutions? This overview looks at the different applications of the various equipment that we have.

First of all, The Multihog is an articulating tractor used for multi – purpose tasks, such as “pothole repair (asphalt planning), verge and border mowing, winter maintenance, and weed removal”(Multihog). The core benefit of the Multihog, is that it’s multi-purpose, and mitigates the need of having to have several machines.

The Multihog is known for Airport Operations, Municipal Services, Road Maintenance and Facilities Management. Some of the more popular attachments include the following:

  • Street Sweeping
  • Snow Blowing
  • Snow Ploughing (Multihog)

Bomford is another brand we represent. We currently have a Flailbot in stock with a Forestry Head. The Flailbot also has a multitude of applications. There are several other attachments available, making it a great multi-purpose option for roadside maintenance. Some of the attachments include:

  • Atomiser/Sprayer (Designed for spraying Vineyards and Orchards)
  • Collection Basket for Sweeper (A useful addition to the sweeper attachment, for collecting debris as it is swept)
  • Front End Loader (With parallel lift function)
  • Snow Blower

Another popular Bomford piece of equipment is the Hawk Evo. This mower is “perfect for farmers, contractors, and municipal environments.” This machine is “fitted with a powerful 104 litre drive system, and options to upgrade to 125 litre , the Hawk Evo offers a machine for every application”(Bomford). We have sold many of these to municipalities around British Columbia (BC), attached to a T6 New Holland tractor.

News Alert! ~ We are now a dealer for Mantis. It serves as an amazing machine, if you are “in the market of professional mowing, cutting, and clearing equipment”(Mantis). This prime mover also has 3 steering modes, and 180 degree view. We also currently have one in stock. The Mantis is shown on the main picture of the blog post above.

requirements/ease of use and safety For an equipment purchase

It’s important when selecting a piece of equipment for your fleet, that it’s not overcomplicated for yourself and your staff. A good example of a brand that prides itself on being “simple” is Sewer Equipment (SECA). The SECA 900 ECO has “no engagement process in the cab and only four primary switches at the operator’s station. Operators can use the work, blower, water, and throttle switches to get the job done.”(Sewer Equipment).

Safety is also extremely important factor when choosing your equipment. “The patented “Hydro Drive” powertrain system allows the truck to operate in neutral when in work mode”(Sewer Equipment) There are also minimal digital screens in the cab to prevent distraction. One of the main benefits of the Flailbot in terms of safety is that it can work on slopes up to 55 degrees (Bomford) and is completely operated from a remote control. This is much safer than operating a ride-on mower on the side of a steep hill, with the risk of it flipping.

There are also many safety features on the Mantis. First of all, the cab has plenty of visibility, with 72 sq ft of glass ensuring optimal visibility. The Mantis follows strict safety protocols, with roll over protection and operator space requirement designs in place.

Reliability & cost savings for an equipment purchase

The Mantis is equipped with a Deutz Turbocharged Diesel Engine, with the options of being 155 horsepower or 201 horsepower. It is built to handle rough terrain, and go through tough terrain. One of the key benefits of the Multihog is the Capital Expenditure Savings. The Multihog “eliminates the need for multiple machines, reducing fleet size and associated costs(Multihog). Training costs are also reduced, with having just one machine to train the operators on, compared to multiple.

Parts & Service Support from Rollins

Along with all the great features of an equipment purchase, the service and support received on that equipment is critical to keep you and your business up and running.
